Steve Flaherty
STEPHEN FLAHERTY writes music for theater, film and the concert hall.
His theater credits include writing the music for productions on Broadway, off-Broadway, regionally and internationally.

Broadway: "Ragtime" (Tony, Drama Desk, and Outer Critics Circle awards, two Grammy nominations, Olivier nomination-London), "Seussical" (based on the works of Dr. Seuss: Drama Desk and Grammy nominations), "Once on This Island" (Tony nomination; Olivier Award for Best Musical- London), "Chita Rivera: The Dancer's Life" (original songs) and Neil Simon's "Proposals" (incidental music).
Lincoln Center Theatre: "Dessa Rose" (Drama Desk and Outer Critics nominations), "A Man Of No Importance" (Outer Critics Circle award for Best Musical, Drama Desk nomination), "My Favorite Year."
Off-Broadway and Regional: "Lucky Stiff" and "Loving Repeating: A Musical of Gertrude Stein" (Chicago's Jefferson Award for Best New Musical 2006.)
His show "Seussical" is currently playing at the Lucille Lortel Theater in New York in a new version for family audiences.
Film work includes: the song score for the feature film "Anastasia" (two Academy Award "Oscar" nominations, two Golden Globe nominations) and the songs and original score for "Bartok the Magnificent" (both 20th Century Fox.)
Concert works include "With Voices Raised" (commissioned by the Boston Pops Orchestra and performed at Carnegie Hall) and "Ragtime Symphonic Suite" (premiered by the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra.) Both are recorded on BMG.
Steve has also received commissions from Carnegie Hall, the Guggenheim Museum and The Cello Project.
Recordings of all of Steve's theater scores are available on SONY/BMG, Decca Broadway, JAY Records and Varese Sarabande, many of which he co-produced.
He also co-produced many of the songs for the soundtrack of the film "Anastasia" on Atlantic Records, which went gold and included the #1 Adult Contemporary single "At The Beginning" (Richard Marx and Donna Lewis; produced by Trevor Horn.)
Steve's songs have been recorded by Aaliyah, Deena Carter, Thalia, Johnny Mathis, Betty Buckley, Patti LuPone, Audra McDonald, Brian Stokes Mitchell, the NY Pops, Frankie Laine(!) and others.
Steve's song "In Our Children's Eyes," which premiered at Carnegie Hall April 30, 2007 with vocalist Anika Noni Rose (of the film "Dreamgirls"), the NY Pops and Steve at the piano, was nationally broadcast July 4, 2007, this year's signature song for the Macy's Fireworks Spectacular.

Stephen is a member of the Dramatists' Guild Council, ASCAP, AMPAS, SCL and NARAS and co-chairs the Dramatists Guild Fellowship Program with lyricist Lynn Ahrens and playwrights Janet Neipris and Susan Miller.
He has collaborated with the lyricist Lynn Ahrens for over twenty years, together creating much of the music listed above.
